Portadown District press statement

Portadown Orange District would like at this time to inform the world why it has decided to supply the Parades Commission with the FORM 11/1 requesting a parade from Carleton Street Orange Hall, Portadown to Drumcree church on Sunday 2nd July 2000.

Portadown District wish it to be known that all they ask for is that their civil rights and religious liberties be upheld as it would be in any other free country throughout the world. By applying for a parade on both the 2nd & 9th of July 2000 we wish to show that the District is prepared to except either date to help do it's part in bringing the situation in Northern Ireland and Portadown in particular back to a normal society, in turn showing the world that Northern Ireland has nothing to fear from allowing the Orange Order to express it's civil rights and religious liberties.

It is the intention of Portadown District to insure that the Drumcree church parade and any other parades are peaceful and while we encourage all Orangemen to parade with us and all sections of the community to support our parades we ask those intent on violence to stay away and genuine supporters to help us in this task.

At this time we ask people to help our campaign by speaking and writing to MP's, MLA's, councillors and anyone else that may be able to help Portadown District to regain their civil rights and religious liberties.
