Portadown District LOL No. 1 came into existence in 1796.
We were the first District Lodge formed, there are now some 161 District Lodges under the jurisdiction of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland. Indeed, at the time of our formation the structure of Grand Lodge did not exist.
Today our District Lodge comprises of some thirty Private Lodges. Membership of Private Lodges range from 10 to 70 plus. There are over 900 members in Portadown District. The District Lodge is headed by a team of Principal District Officers and Committee Members - a total of twenty-one Brethren. The Lodge comprises of these twenty-one Brethren and five officers from each individual Private Lodge. So a meeting of the District Lodge could see over 170 brethren in attendance. The Principal Officers represent the District Lodge at County Level. County Armagh Grand Orange Lodge comprises of eleven Districts. Total membership of the County exceeds five thousand members. County Officers plus one representative from each District attend Grand Lodge Meetings. In conducting its business, Portadown District has several sub-committees looking after specific tasks such as our charity work, youth development, history and culture. As one of the oldest and largest organisations in the town, the District Lodge is proud of its long history, its rich culture and sense of tradition. The District Lodge has and continues to play a pivotal role in the life of our town. The District Lodge organises four Church Services each year together
with our annual Mini-twelfth parade in June and the Battle of the
Boyne Commemoration Parade held on the Twelfth of July each year.
The County Demonstration rotates through all eleven Districts within
the County……This year Portadown is hosting and looks forward to
welcoming some six thousand Brethren, Ladies and Juniors to the
'Hub of the North'.
