Republicans try to burn down Orange Hall

Republicans are trying to up the ante in Castlewellan by the attempted arson of the local Orange Hall.

The attempted arson attack was discovered at the Orange hall in County Down. A gallon of red diesel was found on the roof of a boiler house at Annahinchago Orange Hall on the Lagan Road at Castlewellan just after 7.30pm yesterday.(10-03-2001)

It had not ignited but there was scorch damage to the roof and spouting. Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area between March 6 and 10 to contact them.

This is clearly another form of ethic cleansing of Protestants' from the area by republican elements a local spokesman commented. All they are doing is stirring up distrust and fear in the community and trying to instill a climate of fear in the Protestant community.
