Lodge attack was 'one of many'
by republicans
The Worshipful Master of a County Down lodge burnt by
arsonists says the attack was just one of a series of
republican vandal incidents in his area.
UUP councillor Gerry Douglas, Master of the Loyal Orange
Lodge 357 on the Causeway Road in Newcastle, says the
Eleventh night attack destroyed the lodge's fibreglass
arch, and that police patrols stopped a gang removing
union flags from the town."
They have tried to burn this arch on several occasions
before but have never succeeded, and there have been several
previous attacks on our hall", he said.
"On this occasion a wheelie bin was set alight against
the arch about 3.15am. The fire eventually ignited the
wooden frame under the fibreglass and the flames were
lapping at the eves of the lodge. Only for the Fire Brigade,
it would probably have gone up too.
"The arch was built by a late brother was was also
a boat builder and was, as far as know unique across the
world.
"Part of the problem is that this area is controlled
by republicans. Police were very active the same night
checking republican gangs going around the town taking
down Union Flags."
A police spokesman said officers cautioned two people
for removing flags on the Main Street after the matter
was reported at about 2.45am. She confirmed that police
are treating the fire at the lodge as malicious.
Once again Sinn Fein/IRA republicians show their true
colours. Where is the parity of esteem for Protestants.
Why is our culture and heritage being attacked daily.
Why does the British Goverment treat bombers of trains
in Northern Ireland part of Great Britain different than
those bombers in England?
One Government - Two laws.
Cultural apartheid did not work in Africa nor has it worked
anywhere else. It is time for Mr B Lair to grab the repubician
stringing nettle and remove it from a peaceful society
roots and all for ever. There is no place for terrorists
amongst ordinary peaceful democratic citizens nor is there
any place in Government for terrorists.
Is Tony Blair going to make the London bombers ministers
of education or put them in jobs over the people they
bomb in Westminster? NO - he is not then why do it in
Northern Ireland??? I have a message for Mr Tony B lair
the people of Northern Ireland are not surrendering to
terrorists and never will while you may surrender our
battle cry is the same as in 1690 - NO SURRENDER - NEVER
